What
would you do if you ruled the world? It’s a question all
of us have thought about. Nas even wrote a song about it. It’s
a big question and all of us have ideas, right? I Want Change
decided to ask some of Hip Hop’s leading voices what they
would do if they ruled the world. Here are some of the responses:
Common “I’d let God come on through and I’d let a lot of the
spiritual leaders just get together and institute
some type of unity as far as the spiritual leaders go,
so that we could… give it to the people. Really I
would just let people know about God and let them
know about the truth through spirituality, through
living life… that’s really it… I’d let God rule.”
Blackalicious “Straight up, off the bat, if I ruled the world there
would be no money and there would be no rich
people, there’d be no more poor people. (There)
would be no more upper class, (there) would be no
lower classes. Everybody would have the same
thing. There wouldn’t even be money. People would
grow their own food. I think that nature provides
everything for us… I think the universe would work
itself out ‘cause there’d be people who were
gardeners, there’d be people who make houses; I
think it’s called a bartering system, right? It would
be more based on that…It would be about getting
to people and getting to their soul, ‘cause there’s a
good person in everybody, and it (would be about)
really trying to change people, to reform people…”
Chief X-cell“I guess the thing off the top of my mind is there
would be no imperialism on this planet, ‘cause right
now, muthafucka’s like George Bush are on a
mission to destroy the planet, straight up.”Medusa “Whoa…you know what I would do, I would have
music on every corner in the ghetto so all the
musicians that play and they’re not getting paid,
the city would fund them to be on every corner.
They would fund the children to receive lessons on
certain days, during certain times. They would have
a shut down time for liquor stores and certain
paraphernalia stores…I would have some sort of
forum where men and women could come together
and really discuss how they feel.”
