Mission
Statement / Vision
I
Want Change is a youth oriented site promoting political, social
and artistic awareness by providing a platform for independent
art, entertainment and politics.
I Want Change was born from the realization that freedom is something
that must be constantly fought for; that vigilance is necessary
to guarantee our rights. Our forefathers were suspicious of mixing
money and politics, and now we see all too clearly why. Big Business
has become a powerful political force, influencing legislation
in their favor at our expense. We are the richest nation in the
world, spending 400 billion a year on the military, which is as
much as all countries combined. Yet, 40 million Americans lack
healthcare, our public schools are crumbling from neglect, we
have the highest per capita murder rate in the industrialized
world and the highest number of citizen incarceration. The idea
of upward mobility is disappearing, as the rich get richer and
the poor stay poor. Despite these seemingly insurmountable obstacles,
we still hold the power in our hands. Our vote has power and most
importantly, our dollar has power!
Although the primary focus of our site for ’04 will be “getting
out the vote” through our mock elections, we also plan on
developing various platforms for independent art, entertainment
and social awareness. As our resources grow, we will promote socially
responsible companies, give air to independent artists and sponsor
concerts and events.
There are many progressive organizations that address these issues,
yet they are often mired in the language of the intellectual.
The millions of people who share our vision can be united into
a cohesive and positive force by a simple message- WE WANT CHANGE!
AND WE WANT IT NOW!
As Abraham Lincoln once said, “…It is true that you
may fool all of the people some of the time; you can even fool
some of the people all of the time; but you can’t fool all
of the people all of the time.” and as we awaken, we awake
others until we are a united voice that cannot be ignored!
